18– A LOUIS XVI REGULATOR CLOCK. With movement by Ferdinand Berthound, (1727-1807), a famous inventor and maker if clocks and astronomical instruments, and the author of various works of horology. It is decorated on top with a large gilt bronze group representing Phoebus in his chariot rushing through the sir., his bounding horses tearing at the clouds. The rectangular case is relieved by a medallion containing a barometer. The dial of the movement is encircled with the signs of the zodiac in ormolu. The vase is decorated with three gilt bronze plaques depicting the seasons– winter, summer and autumn. All the metal work was designed by Clodion and executed and signed by Cafferieri, 1767. – 72,000-00 [Check mark]

Made for Marie Antoinette by Jean Henri Riesener, with oval chasing in the centre by Gouthiere, representing doves, with a quiver of arrows and flowers in a shield-shaped panel of marqueterie, with wreaths of flowers in colors: an oblong panel of marqueterie beneath, with a basket of flowers and fruit and other Forward [underlined] [total:] $651,600-00 [check mark]
