Algernon Graves, 42 Old Bond Street, London, W.

November 9th, 1914.

To Messrs. Duveen Bros., Dear Sirs: In reply to your enquiry about the picture of Lady Taylor. When I wrote my Reynolds book in 1899 I had never seen or heard of the half length picture in a hat and in my description of the head size also in a hat I concluded Mr. Kann's picture was the one engraved by Scott and consequently what I have stated on page 957 is in error and should I ever publish a fifth volume of the work I shall make it quite clear that the Kann was never engraved at all previous to the recent reproduction. I consider your description in the catalogue of your Exhibition is vertually correct. I remain, Yours faithfully, (Signed) Algernon Graves.
