I would also again impress upon you that it is absolutely pure without any repaint, a very rare thing to find nowadays, especially in Holbein, but this picture has been so well preserved + looked after. I think also I am right in saying it is the only Holbein portrait signed + dated. Of course it is far superior to the Erasmus in the New York Metropolitan Museum. Many people say it is the finest work Holbein ever painted, by anyhow I know I am not exaggerating when I say every one is agreed it is his finest portrait. I think if you ever have it in your possession, when you see it, it will rather surprise you. I hope very shortly now arrangements will be complete for Mr. Dunn to see it, + haven't the slightest fear when he does do so, he will send you a very favourable cable.
