My dear Mr. Duveen: I have decided to purchase that Gainsborough from you (View in the Mall, St. James's Park) and write you now for the reason that I do not wish you to have it cleaned before delivering it to me; I have reached the conclusion that it detracts from the pictures to have them cleaned.
