Letter

New York, 12 December 1898

H. C. Frick Esq.

Dear Sir

We regret exceedingly that it will be impossible for us to exhibit the Dagnan-Bouveret picture in our Galleries here. We have made full enquiries and find, according to the law, that the picture cannot be exhibited unless in a public Institution or Society for educational purposes only, and provided also that business of a commercial nature is not being carried on there. We cannot consequently have it here. This will be a great loss to us, and we certainly think it rather unfair that the people of this City will not have a chance of seeing the great work.

We are writing Mr. Simon in reference to the above.

With kind regards,

Yours faithfully

Arthur Tooth & Sons.
