so that you may feel sure that no one intervened to prevent your securing the very finest specimens. We have, of course, a number of the objects left which you would be welcome to, but they are not in my opinion of the standard and dignity which entitled them to become a part of your collection and it is for this reason only that we do not urge you to buy them.

The only exceptions in this regard are the Plaque which you referred to as "The Ascension" but which is designated in the catalogue as "The Resurrection", number 84, plate #21, entitled "Queen Tomyris with the Head of Cyrus" (Bellano) which Tom brought twice to your house.

Regarding the Plaque, I would like you to know that I consider it as an exceptionally beautiful thing and can quite appreciate your admiration for it. You may remember when I first showed it to you in our place among the remaining Bronzes which were displayed on long wooden tables on our first floor. When you admired it, I frankly told you that it was, in my judgment, the only fine Bronze left and I again referred to it in my recent conversation with you. I had the Bronze at your house but brought it back to our Galleries because I did not find a proper place to put it by reason of the difficulty of displaying it because of its uncommon shape, but since I regard it of such high artistic merit I am desirous that you might have it if you wish it, and upon consideration I do not think that you should miss it. For this reason I am taking the liberty of sending it to you for your inspection in order that you may observe it at your leisure. While it is a readily saleable object and we have a client for it, I am unwilling to
