Write? 3-5.30 ROBERT W. DEFOREST 30 BROAD STREET February 7, 1919 Dear Mr. Frick:- The American Federation of Arts, the national organization of which our Metropolitan Museum is one of the chapters, holds its Annual Conference this year in New York as the guest, so to speak, of our Metropolitan Museum, on May 15 and 16, opening with a reception at the Museum on the evening of May 14. When this conference has been held in Washington, as it has previous to the war, it has been frequently entertained by a reception at the White House. Our Committee are not looking for any entertainment or reception in New York, but they would very much like to give to the delegates of the Conference, some of whom come from long distances, even from the Pacific Coast, the opportunity of seeing your gallery, on the afternoon of either May 15 or May 16, between say 4 and 6.30, or possibly, if equally convenient to you, on the evening of May 15, and I have been deputed to inquire whether you would be willing to give this privilege. Attendance could be limited as much as you wish. Several of our Metropolitan Trustees are officially connected with the Federation of Arts, among whom are Senator Root, Mr. Herbert Adams, Mr. Kent and myself. I know this is a long way ahead, but so far as my part in the arrangements is concerned I am trying to do it now. Sincerely yours, Robert W. De Forest Mr. Henry C. Frick, 5th Avenue & 70th Street, New York. 10/19 [shorthand along the bottom and right side of the letter]
