To begin with the house itself is very beautiful inside and out, and beautifully furnished too. The pictures are superb. There literally isn't a poor or even a mediocre one in the place. There is a Velasquez which I suppose is the gem of the collection, though it is difficult to pass by the two Rembrandts or your beloved Frans Hals. Then there was a Van Dyck I rather fancied of the Earl or Duke or whatever he is with his wife & daughter, a little canvas of about 12 ft x 15 ft. Really it was overwhelming seeing so much that is absolutely first class.
