mike tyson tattoo meaning

While tattoos have become a prominent feature in the world of boxing, there are currently no strict regulations regarding inked fighters. Boxing, unlike certain sports that restrict visible tattoos for aesthetic or corporate endorsement reasons, embraces individuality and allows fighters to express themselves through body art. Boxers are free to adorn their bodies with tattoos as long as they do not violate any specific rules.

Tyson has an original tattoo of Mao Zedong on his right arm, the founder of the Chinese People’s Republic. The great leader was credited with ending civil unrest, which Tyson read about in prison. In 2006 Tyson visited the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, with the Chicago Tribune in tow, to pay respects.

Tyson faces Jake Paul on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys. In a historic first, Netflix will be airing it in place of DAZN Exclusive streamings. ‘Iron Mike’ and his return to boxing holds so much gravitas, that even an impetuous ‘Problem Child’ imitates his iconic face mark in the theatrical promo. Mike Tyson and his tattoo are recognizable by all.

In 2014, though, Tyson finally fessed up about the real reason for his tattoo. As Sportcasting recounts, Tyson said of his dark period, "I just hated myself... I literally wanted to deface myself." Capricious though it was, the tattoo was also his first step toward making positive choices.

MIKE TYSON's FACIAL tattoo has been described as one of the most distinctive tattoos in North America. It has attracted controversy as an example of the cultural appropriation of ta moko, the sacred culturally embedded tattooing practice of the Maori people of Aotearoa/New Zealand. It has also attracted much media attention for its place at the heart of Whitmill v. Warner Bros., a rare litigated instance of a tattooist enforcing their copyright in a tattoo design. More than this, though, Tyson's tattoo is an excellent example of the tensions that emerge over the protection of traditional knowledge, and the difhculty of claiming one truth in an intellectual property world that was born in the Western philosophical tradition, and is only now beginning to come to terms with its colonial heritage.

The interview with Inked Mag also reveals Asher plays an important role in Tyson’s life. His third and current wife, Lakiha “Kiki” Spicer was given a tennis racket by Asher as a child while the duo’s daughter is an outstanding tennis player herself. “How is that possible?” Tyson says in the interview. “I have the tattoo on my arm, my wife has a racket from him, and our daughter plays tennis. It’s crazy.”

In 2003, Mike Tyson did the unexpected and it had nothing to do with boxing. Tyson got a tattoo of tribal art on his face, yet that wasn’t his original plan. He wanted a tattoo, but he wanted to have hearts all over his face. “My best thinking was to have a bunch of hearts all over my eyes and face like a pirate patch,” Tyson said on The Rosie Show.
