13. A UNIQUE PAIR OF LOUIS XV UPRIGHT SECRETARIES. They are most beautifully shaped, there being not a single straight line in their exterior form. A small drawer is at the top just above the fall-down front, which forms the writing table. Below this is a cupboard. These panels are all decorated with flowers in violet wood on tulip wood ground, and are bordered with delicate scroll mounts. These secretaries are by JOSEPH and are signed by him.
JOSEPH was received into the Paris Corporation of Master Cabinet Makers at the end of the reign of Louis XV. They were given by Marie Antoinette to Lord Reay from whose descendants they were acquired by Lord Farquhar and came ultimately to the late Mr J. Pierepont Morgan.
