Around Pysche's neck Cupid has flung a garland of roses, and in his hand he holds a wreath of roses over her head. 14. A LOUIS XVI MARQUETERIE COMMODE, made for the apartment of Marie Antoinette at St. Cloud by Jean Riesener in 1790. It is signed by Riesener and branded on the back with the cyher of Marie Antoinette and the Garde Meuble de la Reine. The centre panel is decorated with a large ormolu medallion of two doves, framed in marqueterie woods representing garlands of flowers. This panel is flanked by marqueterie of circular trellis pattern enclosing sprays of flowers. The friezes which surround it are finely chased gilt bronze by Gouthiere of acanthus leaves and asperges. The corner mounts representing sprays of flowers. Formerly in the Hamilton Palace Collection and later in the COllection of the Marquise de Foz of Lisbon, and then in the possession of Mr. J.
