26 MURILLO, BARTOLOME ESTEBAN 1617-1682 PORTRAIT OF HIMSELF — Bust in oval, full face, white collar and white let-in sleeves. Hair hangs loose over shoulders. Portrait is represented as being painted on a marble slab, the raised rim around it acting as a frame. This slab is standing on another stone larger in size, on the top of which one reads the following later inscription.
"Vera effigies Bartholomaei Stephani a Morillo Maximi Pictoris, Hispali Nati anno 1618, obiit anno 1682 Tertia die Mensis Aprilis."
Described in Charles B. Curtis' work on "Velasquez and Murillo," p. 295, No. 465, and mentioned in Stirling Maxwell's "Annals of the Artists of Spain," Vol. IV, p. 1638.
