M.B. 69. CASKET AS AN INKSTAND. Paduan. Follower of Donatello. XV Century. Oblong in shape, supported on female demi-figures with upstanding wings and claw feet. In the centre of the sides are female busts in high relief, the hair adorned with thick garlands of fruit; each bust is surrounded by a wreath supported on either side by a centaur with a nymph on his back. The ends of the casket are decorated with a festoon and the head of Medusa. The lid is adorned with a band of ornament of imbricated design; at the top in the centre are the arms of the Chigh (?) family surmounted by a cardinal's hat and enclosed within a wreath bound with fluttering ribbons; nude winged putti in full length stand on either side. M.B. 114. PORTRAIT OF MARCANTONIO PASSERI. Padun XVI Century. Probably Andrea Riccio. Bust almost life size, with bald head and square shaped beard; the robe is fastened in front by a ribbon. The treatment is simple and lifeline. Plate LXXIX. H. 15 1/2" Wooden stand for the above Bust. 15,000.-
