heading in green ink: Constant Troyon. 1810-1865.

Was born at Sèvres. His father, a porcelain manufacturer, died when Constant was but seven + left him to the care of his wife and of a relation, M. Riocreux, Keeper of the Porcelain Museum. His mother was a skillful artist in feathers; (she mounted birds, etc.) she taught Constant the values of color and form, and M. Riocreux gave him his first lessons in drawing. Troyon met Rousseau and others, and exhibited year in green ink: 1833 at the Salon for the first time. Travelled around France, painting from nature. year in green ink: 1847 Visited Holland and Belgium, where he met some famous animal-painters, and on his return home, he began to introduce animals in his pictures. Was very prosperous, but throughout his life, he remained modest, generous, and gay. Died in Paris, at the age of fifty-five. symbol in green ink: Ŧ
