heading in green ink: Jacob van Ruysdael 1630 (?)-1682
Was born at Haarlem. Was the son of Isaak van Ruysdael, a framemaker, and a pupil of Everdingen. Entered the Guild at Haarlem, but went to year in green ink: 1654 Amsterdam, where his co-religionists, the Mennonites took him into their alms-house. Although at the age of fourteen, he already showed talent in painting, for some years he practised surgery, and it was through the influence of N. Bergheue[?] that he devoted his attention entirely to painting. Some authorities say he visited, or lived on the borders of Germany. He died at Haarlem. symbol in green ink: Ŧ
