artistic, but the ponderable and equilibrium of the pastes, which this portrait shows us, and also the grace with which the different parts of the clothing alternate, executed with the greatest amplitude and simplicity, with these others in which he put the separating touches which strike the eye in the folds of the sleeves, and still more in the handle of the sword and in the ornaments of the suit, in which, on the fine tint of the silver, are to be seen very fine touches of the brush, genuine points of light so true of colour and accent, and so admirable placed, that a small piece of the many masterful features that this picture presents would suffice to
