Carlos, Gran Duque de Parma, King of Spain; the second, D. Francisco, who lived only one month, and the third, D. Philip, who was born on the 15th of May, 1720, and was the successor of D. Carlos in the dukedom of Parma, Plasencia y Guastala. It is irrelevant to relate here either the difficulties which Spain had to overpower, first of all against the quadruple alliance or the warlike expeditions she was obliged to carry
