The son of German parents, was born in Whitechapel, London. At an early age, he was assisted in his art-studies by George III. year in green ink: 1755 Entered the Royal Academy as a student. year in green ink: 1780 Began to exhibit there. Married a daughter of the celebrated wax-modeller, Mrs. Wright. year in green ink: 1789 Was appointed portrait-painter to the Prince of Wales. At the age of twenty-four, was made an Academician.
