This is the earliest portrait of Emma Hart paint- by Romney. It passed, presumably through Greville into Sir William Hamilton's possession, and was bought at his sale by Mr. Lister Parker. The tradition in the Parker family - writes Major W. Parker to us - is that Mr. Fawkes gave Lister Parker 50 gs. for the picture in 1816 or 1818; and that Mr. Fawkes of Farnley still has the receipt for the picture from Lister Parker, which is there called "Lady Hamilton and Dog."
