Emma, the daughter of Henry Lyon, a blacksmith, was born at Denhall in Chester. She was a servant in the household of a parish year in green ink: 1777 doctor, and then a nursery-maid in London. Became a servant of Mrs. Linley's at Denry Lane Theatre. Was waitress for a while at St. James' Market. year in green ink: 1782 Was taken under the protection of Greville. Was sent by Greville to study singing in Naples where she was under the care of his uncle Sir William Hamilton, the English Ambassador to Naples. year in green ink: 1793 Married Hamilton. year in green ink: 1782-1791 Posed forty-five times for Romney whom she inspired because of her wonderful beauty. Spent most of her time in Naples, where she entertained, and in return, was entertained. Intrigue with Lord Nelson. Died at Calais as a pauper.
