Franz Hals the Elder, probably born at Antwerp, was a descendant of an old patrician family of Haarlem. His parents migrated to Antwerp and lived there for some years. Received early training under Adam van Noort. year in green ink: 1613 Painted his first masterpiece - "St. George's Shooting Guild at Haarlem." year in green ink: 1610 Married Anneke Hermanszoon sic: Harmensdochter. Was summoned before the magistrate for ill-treating his wife. year in green ink: 1616 His wife died and Hals married Lysbeth Reyniers. He was constantly in debt and his habits were very irregular.
