Was born at Antwerp Was an eminent painter. Studied fruit and flower painting under Henry van Balen. Afterwards devoted himself chiefly to the delineation of animals and hunting scenes some of which are admirable works of the kind. Was an intimate friend of Van Dyck, Rubens and Jordaens - for the pictures of the last two artists, he frequently painted still-life and animals. Among his masterpieces, are a stag-hunt and other similar productions, painted for Philip III of Spain. in green ink: Ŧ
