heading in green ink: - Murillo - 1617-1682 - Bartolomé Estaban [sic] Murillo, was born in Seville. His father, a mechanic, was Gaspar Estaban [sic] Murillo, and his mother was Maria Perez. Both of his parents died before he was ten years of age, and he was left to the care of an uncle by marriage. Was apprenticed to a cousin, Juan del Castillo. year in green ink: 1640 Castillo left Seville, leaving Murillo to struggle for his existence. Murillo pained country people and beggar boys for his living. year in green ink: 1643 Went to Madrid where he was received with the greatest kindness by Velasquez. year in green ink: 1646 returned to Seville. Became very popular in his native town. year in green ink: 1648 Married a wealthy lady, Dona Beatriz de Cabrera y Sotomayor of Pilas.
