DIAZ DE LA PENA, NARCISSE VIRGILE 1809-1876 LOVE'S CARESSES Full-length figure of a woman seated turning to left, dressed in while with pink drapery thrown over her knees. On either side she caresses a cupid. Glimpse of blue sky and trees in backgound. Signed at the lower left, "N. Diaz, '52." Canvas: W. 21. H. 28. Collection: Bertin, Paris. 14 DUPRE, JULES 1811-1889 LA RIVIERE In the foreground a pool, on the right a cow drinking while two others are coming down the hill to the water's edge. Distant in the centre beyond the pool several thatched roofed houses are seen. Cloudy sky. Exhibited Universal Exhibition, Paris, 1867, No. 232. Signed at the lower left, "Jules Dupre." Baron Edmond de Rothschild, Paris. 10DYCK, SIR ANTHONY VAN 1599-1641 PORTRAIT OF CANEVARI Three-quarter length oval, nearly full face. Standing by the side of a pedestal on which rests a letter and an open book with a closed volume on top of it. Dressed in lack with white collar and cuffs, his left arm hangs by his side while his right rests on a closed volume, on back of which are written the words "Hippocor Op." The directions letter disclose the name of the sitter " Canevari.P To the left a red velvet curtain. Painted in Genoa for the Lomellini family, Palazzo Lomellini. Canvas: W. 39. H. 51. Collection: Cattaneo, Genoa. 16 DYCK, SIR ANTHONY VAN 1599-1641 MARCHESA GIOVANNA CATTANEO Three-quarter length, nearly full face standing. Wears a white satin dress trimmed with gold braid. Around her neck she wears a stiff linen collar edged with lace. In her right hand she holds between her forefinger and thumb a heavy gold chain suspended from the neck.
