THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART, NEW YORK. January 8, 1920.

H. C. McEldowney, Esq., Pittsburg, Pa.

Dear Sir:- Last summer in London I saw at Messrs. Colnaghi & Obach's among other prints Rembrandt's Christ Presented to the people, the Large Crucifixion, (both as I remember in the first states), and the "Hundred Guilder Print" (as I remember in a second state). At the time I tried to in-terest Mr. Felix M. Warburg in them. Later, in the fall, I saw these prints again at Messrs. Knoelder in N. Y. A day or two after that I received a cable from Colnaghi Obach saying that Mr. Warburg had called and asked to have the prints sent to me for examination by him, and that Knoedler's has been requested by cable to do so. The day I received the cable knoedler's told me they had re-received a similar cable, and that if the prints should not be taken by an unnamed gentleman who had them then under consideration, they should be sent to me. Some time later- not more than ten days or two weeks before Mr. Frick's death, as I remember it- Mr. Wells of Knoedler's told me that Mr. Frick had purchased the prints; and I so informed Mr. War-burg after his arrival home. Yours very truly, (signed) William M. Ivins, Jr.
