M. KNOEDLER & CO.

June 24. 1915.

Dear Mr. Frick: I went to your house yesterday in connection with the tablets for your pictures, which will be finished during the Summer. It struck me very forcibly that the big Boucher would look superb in the place where the Millet has been hanging. Its oval shape and small frame makes it particular suitable, owing to the angle at which a picture must be seen in this portion of hall, and its color is very beautiful with the marble. I wanted to have you see it there before closing the house. This picture was painted to order for one of the most artistic men in France, and there is no more beautiful home than the Hotel de Soubise, now the home of the National Archives. I enclose you the pedigree. As you will note, it has been in four very important collections, and to my mind is more beautiful than any of the Bouchers in the Wallace Collection in London, in fact, I have always regretted that you did not have a place for this picture, and was pleased to discover one. Yours sincerely, C. S. Carstairs Enclosure (1)
