COPY IN LETTER BOOK Paintings New York, April 15, 1915.

Dear Mrs. Creelman: I have agreed to pay on delivery to me, two hundred and fifteen thousand ($215,000.00) dollars for the portrait by Holbein of Thomas Cromwell, owned at present by Sir Hugh Lan: and in addition thereto, then thousand (10,000.00) dollars to you as commission. I have authorized the Bankers Trust Company to make payments to you and charge my account, they, however, to first show me the portrait on its arrival here in order that I may satisfy myself that it is the one I saw in London and which was cleaned by Dr. De Wilt of Knoedler & Company. I have asked the Bankers Trust Company to endorse this letter, so that you can assure your parties abroad that the money will be promptly paid on delivery of the portrait.

Your very sincerely,

Mrs. James Creelman, 9 West 83rd Street, New York, N. Y.
