Lusitania 15, OLD BOND STREET, LONDON, W. 24th July 1914. H.C. Frick, Esq. Eagle Rock, Pride's Crossing, Mass. Dear Mr. Frick, I duly received your cable in answer to mine re the Holbein. Tom cabled about shipping the Turner. Your picture is practically finished except that De Wild has to glaze it, which he will do next week, when he leaves for his holiday. It is greatly to the advantage of the picture for this to dry and it will therefore have to wait until he returns at the beginning of September. Then it will be shipped and will be finally varnished after his return to New York, which will be towards the end of September. It is very much wiser to varnish it in the United States, rather than here. It has been a splendid thing for the picture to have a sufficient amount of time, and I am sure it won't need anything doing to it for a hundred years! It has come out very beautifully, the beautiful drawing of the boats and rigging one feels much more than formerly, and the whole colour scheme is much better and is of pastel quality. I am sure you will be delighted with it. De Wild is on the other one at present and has almost finished removing the old varnish, and [end page 1 of 3]
