OFFICE OF H.C.FRICK RECEIVED MAR 19 1913

Lisbon, March 3, 1913.

Mr. H. C. Frick, Trinity Building, New York.

My dear Mr. Frick:- I was very much interested a few evenings since hearing the Belgian Minister, Mr. Leghait, give the history of your recently acquired Velasquez. Mr. Leghait became interested in the picture through his father, who was a very famous art connoisseur, and who was one of the first to take the position that the purported original in the London Gallery was not an original at all, but only a very excellent copy. After the purchase of your original from the Parma family, and while it was still in the bank at Vienna, awaiting shipment to Biarritz, where it was to be passed upon by the expert, Mr. Leghait (the younger) went specially to Vienna to see it. He has a photograph of the picture, taken while he was there, and his description of it is most enthusiastic. He says that art connoisseurs agree that it is certainly the best piece of work Velasquez did. I sincerely congratulate you. Yours most truly, Cyrus E. Woods
