more than some pictures 3 times the size. I also draw your attention to the fact that some of the greatest pictures in the world are as small + smaller. Notably the head of Phillip the 4th in the National Gallery about the same size is conceded by all judges to be the finest portrait in the Gallery. The Vermeer one of the most delightful pictures in the Louvre is only 6 x 8 inches. I'm sure you would never care to part with it no matter how many Velasquezs you might have the opportunity of buying - I found nothing in Spain and in Geneva was shown a mass of rubbish. The "Hobbema" + "Cuyp" are wonderful examples of 2 men sufficiently great to be worthy of representation in your collection by several examples. I don't think you can make your collection too strong in seventeenth century Dutch art. It was a marvelous school. The weather has been wonderful + I have had some good games of golf at La Boulie which is playing wonderfully well - Wish you were here. Sincerely Yours Charlie Carstairs

I go to London next Monday
