February Twenty Ninth 1916

Dear Mr. Frick, With respect to your letter of the 26th inst., we beg to confirm the sale to you of the picture by GAINSBOROUGH entitled "View in the Mall St. James Park". In reply to a cable we sent to London we understand that shipment of the picture is delayed for a matter of ten days, so that it may be copied. One of our men will then personally bring it over, and we have every expectation of delivering it to you within the next four weeks. We have taken note of your instructions that you do not wish the picture cleaned before it is delivered to you. Believe us to remain, Yours very truly, Signed: Joseph Duveen

H.C. Frick, Esq. 1 East 70th St. City.

P.S. Since writing the above we have received the enclosed cable from London giving the canvas measurements of the picture as 47 1/2 x 57 3/4.
