Now this deplorable question of "duty" at the Custom House, paying for all objects of Art. Perhaps I could have sent it before the next Salon, and you could have returned it, to exhibit it, but we must not think of such a thing. I trust, Sir, you will understand my reasons, that you will accord the satisfaction which I ask.

    Mr. Simon has again asked about the portrait of your son. By what he told me of this young man, foreshadows me an agreeable study. Could you send me a photograph of my future model, by which I could study his physomony which I am told is extremely interesting and distinguie. 
     I trust, Sir, that I can count upon your goodness relating to this picture, and that you will approve.
