CABLE ADDRESS: BYTINGS, NEWYORK
New York, October 27 1895.
H. C. Frick Esq.
Dear Sir
We beg to say that we shipped today by Adams Exp. one case containing the Claude Monet, as ordered. A crystal plate is packed in the bottom of the case.
This painting represents a view of Argenteuil (near Paris) on a very bright day of early spring. Since the picture was painted - in 1873 - the whole landscape has changed very much.
Railroads, new buildings etc. were

constructed. This picture was formerly in the collection of Monsieur Nuñez, Paris.
We beg to send you under separate envelope a photo of the painting by Fritz Thaulow which we have sold you. It represents a night scene in a village street. Mr. Beatty who selected it for the Carnegie Library Loan Exhibition will no doubt show you the picture, before the Exhibition opens, any time you wish to see it.
If you find on examination of this painting - which you brought on a photo - that it does not suit you, we do not wish that you

should take it and beg you to notify us at your earliest convenience that this purchase is cancelled.
Outside of a small number of collectors and artists, Fritz Thaulow, a Norwegian painter, who has already a big name in Paris, is not yet known here. It will be our pleasant duty to make him famous in America. Since we brought out Cazin's paintings - in 1887 - we have not had the pleasure of showing to our clients the works of a stronger and at same time more poetical young painter as Thaulow.
