ARCHAEOLOGICAL INSTITUTE OF AMERICA
OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT
COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY, NEW YORK, N. Y.
May 8th, 1919.
Mr Henry Clay Frick,
Fifth Avenue at 70th St,
New York City,
My dear Mr. Frick:-
There is now present in this country, as the guest of the Archaeological Institute, an eminent English scholar and art critic, - Professor Ernest Gardner of the University of London. He has accepted the appointment as Charles Eliot Norton Lecturer for 1919, and is now in the West speaking to our various affiliated Societies. We expect that Professor Gardner will be in this city for a few days after his return on May 17th, and I write to inquire whether it would be convenient for you to allow him to view your art collections at any time near that date. It is a privilege which I should be especially glad to obtain for him, since he is so peculiarly qualified to appreciate it.
Very truly yours,
G. M. Whicher
General Secretary.
