Miss Thompson under date of Feby 9th writes -
"We were overwhelmed by the beauty of the Frick collection yesterday. Weren't we in luck to get in? To begin with the house itself is very beautiful inside and out, and beautifully furnished too. The pictures are superb. There literally isn't a poor or even a mediocre one in the place. There is a Velasquez which I suppose is the gem of the collection, though it is difficult to pass by the two Rembrandts or your beloved Frans Hals. Then there was a Van Dyck I rather fancied of the Earl or Duke or whatever he is with his wife & daughter, a little canvas of about 12 ft x 15 ft. Really it was overwhelming seeing so much that is absolutely first class. The library besides the books, had English portraits 2 Sir Joshua Reynolds, 2 Lawrences, Hopner [Hoppner], Lily[?] and a
