Dear Sir: Thank you very much for your prompt and favorable reply to my letter. I have sent the check to Mr. Crane and he will send you the picture at once. Keep it for a week or two and if it is not satisfactory take the canvas out of the frame and send it to me here. I will see that he paints you something that is satisfactory. In any case I should like to hear your opinion of the picture. As I told you I have not seen this canvas but I know Crane well enough to be sure that he can and will paint a good picture and that too for

a small sum. In other words he is a reliable man.
I hope to meet you at Pittsburg in November if not sooner. Expect to go out there then with Mr. Carnegie to see the opening of the library. In the meantime I should be glad to see you in New York if you are stopping there and have the leisure to see people on non-business matters.
