My Dear Mr. Frick:-
Your kind letter was duly received yesterday.
I am very glad that you are satisfied with the information
I gave you.
The paintings at the Clarke sale brought very high prices
again last evening as you will see from enclosed clipping, which will
give you an idea of the spirit and interest shown.
We have just come into possession of a very important
work by Rousseau, entitled "A farm in the Woods", originally of the
Secretan collection. It is the same size as the one you liked so
much in Paris last summer, and in my opinion it is of better quality.
It is merely by the greatest piece of luck that we happened to get it
yesterday and I thought I would notify you so that you could have
the first chance to see it. If you like I will send it on for
your inspection. The price to you will be $25000.- but it worth
more than the other which you offered $30000.- for last summer.
In the Secretan catalog it is described:-
"Farm in the woods,"
Second plan, a green slope. A farm or rather several huts
under a number of trees; the sun brightens up the top of this slope;
the thatches on the roof; the walls brightened by the cement; the
trees which are over the huts and a road which goes through to the
