Dear Mr. Frick,
As I anticipated big prices were brought at the Pender Sale. You no doubt received my cable - no reply coming I concluded that you were not interested. Nevertheless I bid on the three best but got nothing as I doubt our people would have given the prices - I enclose a full list of the collection. You might copy it in your book for future reference & send it to my house in N. J.
The only paintings of real interest to me were the Turner, which represented the artist at different periods with very good examples - No. 82 Mercury & Herse was

large and not characteristic being too much like a Claude not individual -
No 83. Wreckers was an excellent picture in quality - middle period.
No 84 "The State Procession" very brilliant & characteristic of his later manner. I went up to 6000 £s which I thought was all I could afford. This picture is now hanging in Mr. J. Pierpont Morgan's London residence. Agnew probably bought it for him.
No. 85 Venice was a charming little picture subdued in color and splendid ?? . I bid £5000. which I thought was a great deal owing to its size. There is no doubt that first class paintings are SCARCER?? and higher than ever.
The Reynolds were not desirable. The Troyon was n.g. - the original is in a collection in Paris.
