Dear Sir:
Mr. H.C. Frick has favored us with a copy of you letter to him of the 27th ult., in respect to the Bust by Houdon of Nell. La Clairon. The opinion which you have therein expressed was evidently formed without investigation of the prior history of the Bust or of the experience of those through who Mr. Frick obtained it. If you had been familiar with the transaction in the examples by Houdon which have been conducted during the past quarter of a century, you would have known that the very largest part of these transactions were made through out firm, and that we have bought and sold more Houdon pieces than probably any one else in the world.
