Dear Sir,
Last Saturday I received a letter
from Mr. Rogers Fry, stating that he would
call here, at your request, on the 15th
to see the Van Dyck. He came yesterday, &
he seemed not satisfied with the Painting
as being a Van Dyck. Of course Mr. Fry is
entitled to have his own opinion - but I am
quite satisfied, not only with the opinion
of other Experts ( I will not say better
qualified, but of equally high standing )
and with the undoubted fact that the Painting
has never changed hands since it was
