My dear Mr. Frick,
I stopped in at
Knoedler's this morning and
learned that the frame for
" A Rainy Day" will be finished
in about another week. They
will then ship the picture to
you at Homewood. I think the
new frame will suit it very
well and will have a look at
it before it is roped up.
As the signature on the canvas
shows, "A Rainy Day" was painted
in 1897. It is similar in motif?,
as I told you, to "The Rain" at
the Metropolitan Museum. In "The
Rain" the shower or storm is
just passing off over the hill.
In "A Rainy Day" it is more of
a settled rain with no sure
