M. KNOEDLER & CO., SUCCESSORS TO GOUPIL & CO., 355 FIFTH AVENUE, NEW YORK. CABLE ADDRESSES. KNOEDLER—NEW YORK. KNOEDLER—PARIS. PARIS OFFICE, 2 RUE GLÜCK.

October 20th, 1898.

initial P? H. C. Frick, Esq., Carnegie Bldg., Pittsburgh, Pa.

My dear Mr. Frick:- I duly received your favors of the 18th and 19th insts. I am glad to hear that you are going to have a great exhibition. I am curious to know who obtained the prizes, but I would regret for the sake of the Gallery if the jury was impressionistic, because it is a well known fact that impressionists are one sided and unfair towards the classical men of recognized talent. My impression is that you will like the Swan and that it will improve on acquaintance. Should this ^not be the case, we ought not have any trouble in releiving you of it. Should you not like the frame, it might be returned to Swan who you know wants me to pay half of it. You ought to be able to arrange with the Custom House to simply take possession of the canvas. I have written to Swan asking him for the necessary certificate to avoid you paying an additional and unjust duty. I am sorry that you have been put to this trouble, but I thought that I had told Obach to send the bronze to us. As soon as the required certificate has arrived, will forward it to you.
