Dear Mr. Frick.


I have written to Lord Warwick to make arrangements for seeing his friend Romney I will report to you upon it. Unless it is something altogether exceptional I hope you will not buy it. Romney is not a great maker, he is pretty & decorative and so forth but he is not up to the standard which your great masterpieces impose. Still this is premature & I promise to judge the picture without any preconceptions. The Turner would be a splendid accession to your collection and I shall do my best to approach Mrs. Ashton carefully about it.

I will send you the resumé of the history of the Polish Rider shortly. Will you kindly thank Miss Frick for her note about this.

I have found a rather beautiful Venetian picture of Judith with a not too repulsive head of Holofernes. It
