purity of texture and quality.

2 A small portrait by Roger Van der Weyden of Lionello d'Este Prince of Farara done when Van der Weyden was in Italy in I449

They (Knoedler & Colnaglie SIC??) are asking I2.000 pounds for it yet in my opinion it is a superb masterpiece eminently worthy of your collection, Ithas SIC not the charm of laste art but it has the finest possible feeling for character and consummate mastery in design, I should like to see you posses SIC this, I dont SIC think the price excessive considering that there are only I0 other portraits known by Van der Weyden and that he was almost the equal of Van Eyck, If SIC you wish to secure this you had better do so by cable as I know that Bode has interested himself in selling it to another American collector, I feel able to give you this uncalled for advice freely because both pictures are in Knoedlers hands, but I would rather you didnt SIC allege my opinion if you can easily avoid it.
