February 15th, 1899.

Mr. H. C. Frick, Carniege SIC Bldg., Pittsburg, Pa.

Dear Mr. Frick:-

Your telegram was duly received, namely confining yourself to the "wood gatherers" by Inness.

The "Nine o'clock" which sold last night, I thought if it went at a low figure I would bid on it, but it went beyond its value, vs., $3100.- It is a very thin painting and not very atmospheric and surely some time or other there will be something far better to turn up and that will please you more.

The sale was a tremendous success.

The following are some of the prices:-

No. 38, Inness, . . . . . . . . . . . . . .$1050.- No. 39. Albert P. Ryder, . . . . . . $2250.- No. 40. Wynant, . . . . . . . . . . . . .$1200.- No. 50. Inness, . . . . . . . . . . . . . .$3100.- No. 54. Inness, . . . . . . . . . . . . . .$1650.- No. 59. Winslow Homer, . . . . ..$2625.- No. 61. Inness, . . . . . . . . . . . . . .$3100.- No. 84. Winslow Homer, . . . . ..$3200.- No. 85. Inness, . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $1080.- No. 89. Homer Martin, . . . . . . .$5500.- No. 91. Troyon, . . . . . . . . . . . . . .$2050.- No. 92. Winslow Homer, . . . . ..$1675.- No. 93. Inness, . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $3650.-

As you will see, they all brought above their values, especially the Winslow Homers, which were valued about $1200. - each and the Homer Martin which Mr. Clarke, (as they say) paid a Thousand Dollars for.
