Aug 25 96 Dear Mr. Forbes, Mr. Frick has sent us the following cable message: Have decided not to purchase [four words illegible] there can be no doubt that the unsettled state of affairs in America has caused loss of power. [Seven illegible words] feeling [one illegible word] do not [two illegible words] evidently do [seven illegible words] and [three illegible words] for himself [four illegible words].

If however Mr. Frick should eventually change his mind we hope you will not do the same, but will allow us to propose the matter with you as you [three words illegible] we would like to do something to [ten illegible words] service, however small, to Mr. Frick in helping him to form his collection.

In the meantime please [fourteen words illegible] in this matter.
