    This picture is mentioned in C. Hofstede de Groot's Catalogue of "Dutch Painters" 1907, Vol. I, pages 599 & 600 No. 39. It is also reproduced in his portfolio on Ver meer, plate 27.
    Mentione in Van Zype's book on the artist, (Brussels 1907) p. 93, and in the Outlook magazine for March 1910, p. 485, in an article on Ver Meer by E. V. Lucas.
    Referred to by W. Burger in an article on "Van der Meer de Delft" published in the Gazette des Beaux Arts 1866, Vol. XXI, p. 462 and on page 548, wher eit is No. 7 in the Catalogue Faisonne.
    This work is No. 7 on Havard's list. It was engraved by Jules Jacquemart (see Bryan's Dictionary of Painters and Engravers Vol. III, p. 104), and is also mentioned in Bryan's dictionary in a list of his works, Vol. V, p. 289.
    Exhibited at the Burlington Fine ARts Club 1900, No. 18.
    Exhibited in the Grafton Gallery 1909-1910, London, on behalf o fhte National Loan Collection in aid of the National Gallery funds, No. 50 p. 71, and reproduced in the catalogue.
    Sold in Amsterdam May 16, 1696 No. 11, on which occasion 21 of Ver Meer's paintings were disposed of in an anonymous sale. For furhter reference see the Burlington Magazine of December 1910.
    In 1866 (W. Burger) it was in teh Collection of Leopold Double, who bought it at a London sale. It was not in teh Demddoff Collection as Havard says. See reference de Groot's "Dutch Painters". Sold in Collection of Leopold Double, Paris, May 30, 1881.
