Dear Mr. Frick

I send you herewith
the account of my purchase
of the Rembrandt for you. It
will serve as documentary proof
of the originality of yr. work.

I have stupidly forgotten the name
of the Count's cousin. I will send
you this in my next letter. I enclose

of his and Dr. Bredius's letters.
I send you also a photograph
of a portrait which has been
brought to my notice. It is said
by Mr. Herbert Horne to be a
splendid and perfectly preserved
Ghirlandajo. The price asked
is £20,000 (Twenty thousand
pounds) You remember that
Mr. Morgan gave £35,000 for
his Ghirlandajo, but then I


am bound to admit his was
a far more attractive picture.
I will not say what I think of
this till I have seen it. Mr.
Horne is incomparably the best
authority on Florentine art in
Europe but I confess I am not
altogether overcome by the photograph.


I submit it to you because I
like to give you the opportunity
of getting any very important piece
that comes to my notice but I shall

not take any further steps until
I hear from you. If you are
interested in it I think it wld.
be as well to send me a cable.
I do hope you will secure the
Velasquez of Phillip IV now at
Agnews. We are publishing it
in the Burlington for April. It
is quite the finest portrait of
Phillip IV wh. I have ever seen
a most indubitable and superb
picture and one that should
belong to you.
