WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON. November 10, 1903.

My dear Mr. Frick: On behalf of the Government of the United State I accept from you, with the utmost pleasure, the painting by Theoblad Chartran representing the signing of the protocol of peace between the United States and Spain on August 12, 1998, in the old cabinet room in White House. The picture will immediately be hung in the same room where the scene it portrays took place. I do not see how the nation could receive a more appropriate gift, and on behalf of the nation I thank you most warmly for your generosity. Sincerely yours, Theodore Roosevelt Mr. H. C. Frick, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
